“The piece reflects the joy I have felt at visiting the Trin Warren Tam-boore wetlands on the north-western edge of Royal Park in Melbourne over the past few years. During the lockdowns of 2020/21 residents were restricted to a five-kilometre zone for travel and Trin Warren was just within my range. It’s a great example of urban design where stormwater is treated, and native birds are attracted by rich variety of plant and animal life. The name was given by the Wurundjeri people, the indigenous custodians of the Melbourne area, and means Bellbird Waterhole.”

– Ken Murray, 2023

Ken Murray is an Australian guitarist, composer, and Associate Professor and Head of Guitar at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music. Trin Warren Tam-boore was composed by Murray for the Johnston brothers in 2022, inspired by Trin Warren Tam-boore – a wetlands rich in native flora and fauna, located on the north west edge of Royal Park in Melbourne. It was a place Murray frequented during the pandemic lockdowns.

This music video was filmed at Fabrik studios and Trin Warren Tam-boore. By juxtaposing the studio performance with scenery of the wetlands, we wanted to transport viewers to the original inspiration for this composition – providing glimpses of what Murray may have experienced walking through this space.

The key light was an Aputure 600d diffused by an 8x8 full poly silk placed on the right side of frame. A 600c on the back left was used for the background. The 600c was a bare bulb set to a warm orange hue – this provided a backlight for the musicians and lit the textured concrete background. The choice of warm lighting in the studio was to compliment the luscious green tones from Trin Warren Tam-boore.
