Clair de Lune by Claude Debussy

Clair de Lune by Claude Debussy, arranged and performed by Ziggy and Miles Johnston.

Film: Agatha Yim, Polyphonic Pictures

Audio: Skillman Music, NY, US

Filming Location: Fabrik Melbourne

Hair/Makeup: Lisa Rathgen

Wardrobe: Peter Jackson

This classic work by Debussy arranged for duo guitar by Ziggy and Miles have become one of their signature pieces.

The intention of the cinematography, lighting design/colour grade and editing for this film was to highlight the intimacy of the music whilst adding a bit of a fantastical element to it. The camera work and editing was purposefully fluid and smooth to compliment the music. Highlighting eye contact and communication between the brothers were also a priority.

In terms of lighting, I wanted a focussed but soft light on the guitarists, so I opted for a single lantern (with a skirt) boomed overhead as a key light, and a soft box with a grid as the ‘blue moon’ backlight. We had the luxury of space at Fabrik, which allowed me to control the spill from the lights a lot easier!
